EPPS should start and support a MUSIC program. Music has been shown to develop children’s brain in areas of language processing, spatial reasoning (essential for math) and verbal memory, as well as discipline, teamwork and creativity. Other intangible benefits of music include a lively school life, atmosphere and motivated students.

    • Thank you for your comment. Every classroom runs a music program under the curriculum expectations as set out by the Ministry of Ontario. The Ministry, our board and our school all share your views on the benefits of music. If you have any questions about your child’s music education, please don’t hesitate to contact their teacher.
      Regards,
      Mrs. Paynter

This OCDSB’s report, http://www.ocdsb.ca/calendar/AGENDA%20DOCS/2011%20DOCS/Sept%202011/Education%20Committee%2020%20September%202011/09%20Report%2011-100%20Music%20Instruction%20in%20Elementary%20Schools.pdf , recommends that staff make it a high priority to have an instrumental music program.

EPPS has a vocal/voice program and has since 2011-2012 intended to offer percussion instruments. As parents in Findlay Creek, we encourage EPPS to continue to develop the instrumental music program with a high priority.

Music program should be on top of the agenda of school council meetings. Funding and fundraising activities should go towards building up EPPS’s instrument inventory, band formation, specialized music teachers, materials, etc… Music education should start as early as in Grade 1.
