Week One Down…

September 10, 2011

I’ve had the theme from Welcome Back Kotter in my head all week!  I have been so happy to be back at Elizabeth Park, with children in the building, smiling and excited to get back to learning.  There have been squeals of delight as children reunited with friends and discovered who their teacher would be; excitement at walking in to a new classroom; and beaming faces as they walked the halls with friendly hellos for staff.  It’s a great time of year!

As we are starting out a new school year I wanted to take the time to share some information and resources with you.  One question that has been coming to the office on several occaions revolves around a child’s placement in a combined, or split, grade.  Almost all of our classes are combined grades, and teachers consider many factors when placing a child in a certain classroom.  The Ministry published a document for teachers to support them as theyvwork with students in multi-grades, and there is a parent pamphlet as well.  These resources are available below.

Some other items that are important pertain to any medical conditions your child(ren) may have.  Our Office Assistant has been contacting families to update our files, and to inquire about any Epi-Pens or other medications that your child needs to have at the school.  All medications are kept with the office, and forms must be signed by parents before the school will administer any medicine.  The only exception is your child’s Epi-Pen, which should be kept with them, and an extra one kept with the office if possible.  A form must be completed for Epi-Pens as well.  If you feel the school needs to know about any medical condition that your child(ren) may have, please let us know.

Thank you to all our families for a wonderful first week back.  Looking forward to week 2, and 3, and 4….
